BUFFALO HUNTS

Guided Buffalo Hunting

Located on the North Rim of the Grand Canyon, Arizona’s House Rock Buffalo Herd is one of only three herd’s in North America that you can still hunt a buffalo and enter it in the Boone & Crocket, or Pope & Young record books. Which means there are only three places on the continent that there are truly wild, free ranging, and huntable buffalo.

The herd numbers in size of over 300 head, and the top heads in BOTH the record books come from this herd. Despite their numbers, this hunt is no turkey-shoot like private herd hunts across the continent. These are VERY intelligent, and spooky animals in a LOT of country. If a jackrabbit sneezes wrong, it will send ’um off at their see-saw, rocking-horse gait, and they won't stop for miles. All the Buffalo hunts are VERY physically and mentally demanding hunts, and it helps if you are in the best shape possible, and keep a positive outlook on the hunt. I haven’t had an unsuccessful buffalo client yet.

There are a few ways to get one of these coveted tags. A Draw Tag, and the Governor/Commission/Super Raffle Tags.

DRAW TAGS
Guided Buffalo Hunting You should buy a Powerball Ticket if you have drawn a tag, because you my friend are one lucky individual. The applications are due usually in October, for the hunt in the early spring. You can use your weapon of choice for this hunt. We will use snow machines and snow shoes on this hunt, due to the snow load on the Guided Arizona Buffalo Hunting North Rim at that time of year. We will ether stay at a nice motel in Fredonia, or I’ll set up a camp depending on what the snow load is. With the logistics, time, and experience involved with this hunt, I charge by expenses plus time which comes out to around $7,000 for ten days. This quite a bargain for a once-in-a-lifetime hunt. If you have drawn one of these tags, give me a call and I’ll go over more details with you. I can’t give-up ALL my secrets over the internet you know.

GOVERNOR / COMMISSION / SUPER RAFFLE TAGS

guided Arizona buffalo hunting These three tags are valid for one year (July 1st through June 30th the following year) and can be hunted at any time.

The Super Raffle Tag started in 2006, by the Arizona Game and Fish to help raise funds for the department instead of raising tag and license fees.

The Governor and Commission Tags are bought at two separate banquet auctions put on by different non-profit wildlife organizations. These usually take place in late winter and early spring. The buffalo tags go for MUCH cheaper than, for example, the Deer, Elk, and Sheep tags.

Guided Buffalo Hunting The BEST time for your hunt is when the buffalo are rutting (May-June) and we will be hunting out of “Chuck’s Camp”. This is the camp that Chuck Adams used to take his P&Y World Record. We will be using canvas wall tents and a camp trailer. If you decide to hunt earlier on, we will be using snow machines and snow shoes and either staying in a nice motel in Fredonia or setting up camp depending on snow conditions.

If you would like for me to have your proxy at these auctions, or would like more details about the auctions, tags, and hunts, feel free to call or email me.

I charge expenses plus time for these hunts, and a good figure is around $7,000, higher in the winter and lower during the rut.
