BEAR HUNTS

Arizona has fall and spring Black Bear seasons. The fall archery season coincides with the archery deer and turkey hunts, and make a GREAT combination hunt. The rifle and muzzleloader seasons are in October. ALL the fall tags can be bought over-the-counter. The spring tags are through the draw process.

I know where a few different bears live. I just need some clients to take them. Baiting is illegal in Arizona, so we hunt them by spot & stalk, calling, and using stands.

Rifle hunters should use .270-.30 calibers, with heavy weight soft points, similar to what to would use on deer. Shot ranges are out to 200 yards. Muzzleloaders also should use the set-up that they would for deer. Archers should pull no less than 60 pounds, with 400 grain shafts, and 125 grain FIXED BLADE broad heads. Shots can range from 10-60 yards. Hand-gunners have to use a center fire cartridge, and I would prefer no-less than a .357 round. Magnum loads are appreciated.

I charge $3,000 for both fall and spring hunts, and if you would like to try for one on a combination fall archery deer hunt, I charge a trophy fee of $1,500. No blood, no trophy fee, BUT if you do draw blood and we are unable to recover your bear, than the trophy fee applies, and we will not let you hunt another bear. If this does happen, ALL efforts will be made to recover your bear.

Your Bear Hunt WILL Include:
  • Your experienced licensed guide.
  • Transportation while in the field.
  • A 40"x86" cot with a 2'x4' table and chair in a spacious 16'x20' canvas wall tent, that has a wood burning stove (no more than 4 clients will be in one tent).
  • Your dietary needs will be met by the camp cook, with three hearty meals a day (with plenty of snacks for the field). Meals are in a 10'x20' dining tent with roll-up sides.
  • The cook's camp trailer has shower facilities, and generator and/or solar electric power outlets.
  • Your guide will be First Aid Certified, and will tailor your hunt to your physical abilities.
  • State Law allows your guide to carry a side-arm for protection of life and property, but NOT to take the sporting shot for you. So don’t ask.

YOU CAN EXPECT
  • Shot ranges to be ten to two hundred yards. You should arrive confident in your personal maximum range abilities. The average shot distance is from forty to one hundred yards.
  • Client’s have had 80% opportunity, the missed opportunities have been due to not shooting quickly enough, or shooting too quickly. Shot time should take between 5 and 10 seconds.

NOT INCLUDED IN YOUR HUNT:
  • Transportation to and from Flagstaff.
  • Pre and post hunt hotels. (Arrangements can be made for you).
  • The butcher and taxidermy work. (Again we can make arrangements, or we can bone-out and do the caping for transport).
  • Weapon of choice.
  • Personal gear, sleeping bag.
  • Hunting license and Tag fees.
  • Alcoholic beverages.
  • Gratuities for guides and cooks.
